Call of the Curlew

Call of the Curlew
In the still of night
A lingering sound of longing
Floats through the air
Haunting my own emptiness

In The Quiet

Is it age?
Or is it environment?
Perhaps both
Ground together by living
The nothingness manifests
In the quiet
The solitude
Taking over
Breathing melancholy
Into the space I inhabit
Within and without
It wears heavy
Greying perception
Yet it is oddly not unwelcome
Or feared
Resigned
To its dysphoric presence
In the quiet
The solitude
