Twisted Feminism

Feminism is a political stance
An ideology like any other
And feminists the warriors
In a battle for equality and respect

2nd wave crashed on me
Unawares and unprepared without consent
My grievance
Straight feminists
Turning their politics into sexuality
Political lesbians

Bald heads and angry shouting voices
Politics of 70’s separatism
Scared the hell out of me
Could not relate
Not then

No social exposure
Isolated purposely
The suburbs a wasteland
A time no-one was out
The only role models
Political lesbian feminists
No way I’m one of them
A lesbian
No way

Lesbian phobia
Bred out of fear
That would trap me
In my own jail
Over a decade of servitude
Secret desires
Running concurrently
Hidden never spoken
Look but don’t acknowledge
You’re normal
You’re not one of them

Oppression is the price
Of a politics of equality
The irony is rancid

Lesbian is who I am!
Not a political statement
In the power play of identity
